In this study, the eye contact of care recipients was examined by using gaze analysis in communication assumed nursing care sites, and a recreational activity was configured for this experiment in which young people played roles of a caregiver or a care recipient. As results, intentional eye contact with the caregiver increased the frequency with which care recipients looked at the face of caregiver by an average of 1.56 times, indicating that the quality of communication might improve when the caregiver made the intentional eye contact. On the other hand, there was no significant correlation between the frequency of eye contact and the personality trait of care recipients, suggesting that the experiment utilizing young people might also be widely applicable to elderly people. In conclusion, the effect of eye contact was demonstrated and it was shown that the intentional eye contact promoted behavioral change in care recipients.
