The utility of a prototype “Rising Aid Clip” (Raclip) assistance pole for the toilet was investigated. Ten healthy subjects aged 20?22 years old used an L-shaped handrail and a Raclip in conditions assuming B-1 and B-2 bedriddenness ranks, and the amount of sway in center of foot pressure when removing lower garments and sitting down on the toilet seat in a restroom was measured with a stabilometer. A statistically significant difference and an actually significant difference in outer peripheral area or total trajectory length were revealed between the Raclip and L-shaped handrail when rank B-1 subjects sat down on the toilet seat alone and when rank B-2 subjects sat down on the toilet seat with assistance. Less center of gravity sway occurred for the Raclip and subjects appeared to have greater stability when sitting down on the toilet seat.
