A communication robot has a possibility to improve the quality of life for elderly users and to reduce the workload of healthcare workers during elderly care. To investigate effective use of a communication robot in elderly care, this study implemented training programs with gestures and conversation in the robot at a daycare facility. It was composed of two physical trainings for a neck, shoulders, arms, hands, and fingers as well as one oral training. The training program was evaluated using questionnaires about impressions and intentions of the robot to elderly users and healthcare workers. Some users and workers had a good impression and favorable intention to the robot such as enjoyable. However, they felt that some improvements were needed to enhance effectiveness and usability of the robot, especially for reliability and flexibility. The robot is able to implement effectively for elderly care by more flexible training to fit the physical condition of users and by more reliable program with sufficient supports to the daycare facility.
