It's important to inspect performance of the environment recognition support system, so that obstacles are modeled by researching based on the walking environment in a daily life. In this study, the obstacles in the walking environment of the visually impaired are investigated for classifying by shape and dimension of the obstacles. Investigation areas are in our school, around school, around stations, around a shopping street, in sidewalk of a town. As results of these investigations, the shape of the obstacles were selected a pillar type and block type, and percent of the total were 46.4% and 25.6%, respectively. It was confirmed that applied ultrasonic glasses could recognize the pillar type obstacles that were diameter of above 10mm and the block type obstacles that were height of above 1110mm. In a monitor by the visually impaired, it was indicated that the glasses could not only recognize the obstacles but also assist to follow person's line.
