Since 2010, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has been organizing the Ikumen Project, which aims to encourage men to become keenly involved with the upbringing of their children. However, the men in question are of working age, which makes it very difficult for them to achieve a good balance between work and childcare. If their level of physical activity, including that involved in child care, is quantified in real time, it will be possible to evaluate and improve this activity. Therefore, in this study, we measured and analyzed physical activities of ikumen and non-ikumen by a triaxial accelerometer, and we clarified that non-locomotive activities are affecting that the activity of holidays where ikumen mainly raises children is larger than on weekdays. In addition, we conducted a discriminant analysis, using data of triaxial accelerometer as the discriminating factor, the equation returned 93.35 percent identification.
