A Fundamental Study on Recovery Rating System for Gait Disorder Using Hybrid Sensor

Masaki MATSUMOTOCTakehiko ABECTakuya TAJIMA and Haruhiko KIMURA

This paper proposes a sensing and evaluating system for gait disorder recovery rating, and aims to clarify the characteristic which is an index of accuracy. The system is useful for making a person who takes a rehabilitation for recovery with a higher motivation for health. Although almost previous researches have approaches to distinguish disorder from healthy, the system developed has a function to show the process of recovery from disorder to healthy with a high cost performance. The system uses hybrid sensor which is put on the subject's back waist. The hybrid sensor can inform us about both of the acceleration and angular acceleration which can identify to us about five walk patterns based on the stride of the person. As the results of experiments using Support Vector Machine (SVM), the identification ratio of the system is 80%. This means a high usability of the system which can use for the healing process on the basis of the information with five walk patterns. It can be expected that the system makes a patient understand his/her own recovery phase and higher motivation for improving the health condition. Moreover physical therapists may be able to improve a rehabilitation menu.
