The origin of welfare in Germany
- Deaconess -
Hiroshi YAGI

Here we enter into a detailed discussion of the origin of welfare in Germany - the deaconess movement -. There pastor Theodor Fliedner started this deaconess movement. We try to find the origin of the holy servant welfare work - seirei fukushi jigyohdan - in Hamamatsu city. Florence Nightingale studied with Theodor Fliedner and was like a deaconess. 46 years ago 5 deaconesses came from Germany to work in Hamamatsu city. Consequently there is an indissoluble connection between the three.

Key words: deaconess, the holy servant welfare work, Florence Nightingale, Theodir Filedner
